N. C. Central hoops takes on Carolina University this Saturday

After two straight road games, the North Carolina Central men’s basketball team returns to the Nest, welcoming Carolina University on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. NC Central won both games at McDougald-McLendon Arena so far this season.

Series History: The Carolina Bruins are set to play their second game ever against NC Central. The first meeting came last season with NCCU winning 91-36 in McDougald-McLendon Arena. Four Eagles finished in double figures, as every player from NCCU scored. The Bruins are currently on a four-game losing streak.  

Last Time Out: NC Central fell 82-67 at USC Upstate on Tuesday in Spartanburg, S.C. Gage Lattimore (17), Khouri Carvey (12) and Jae Slack (11) all finished in double figures. Carvey and Kyric Davis both grabbed six rebounds. The Eagles are still looking for their first road victory. 

Second Half: The Eagles have had some slow starts on the road, but they have managed to keep up the pace in the second half of four of the six away games this season. At App State, NCCU scored two points less than the Mountaineers (38-36), as well as against the Virginia Cavaliers (39-37). The Maroon and Gray won the second half of the Dayton contest (35-30) and tied the USC Upstate Spartans (43-43). 

Moton 500: LeVelle Moton has officially surpassed 500 coached games at the helm of the NCCU men’s basketball program. This milestone was reached versus Toccoa Falls, in the sixth game of the season. Moton is first in games coached at NCCU, and second in seasons. Floyd Brown coached for 18 seasons, in 445 games. 

Nationally Known: There are two Eagles in the top-25 of statistical categories in the nation. Gage Lattimore is fourth in three-point field goals made (29), 18th in three-pointers made (3.63) and 12th in total points (159). Dionte Johnson is 11th in total steals (20), and 22nd in assists (42).
